At the quantum level, fusion occurs when isotopes of hydrogen (deuterium and tritium) fuse together by chance as they move incredibly fast thanks to the thermoenergy from the plasma’s temperatures (hotter than the center of the sun). Then, this resulting fused compound can break apart into its stablest form: a helium atom and a neutron. In this refiguration, an incredible amount of thermal-kinetic energy is released (in neutron form) due to the stability of helium, proved in Albert Einstein’s E = mc2 equation.
