Serving it Up: Over 40 Student Service Clubs Shine at the Service Fair

Many students like Suriya Bowen (‘25) (left) and Sophia Bao (‘25) (right) signed up for service clubs on September 12, 2023. Students swarmed booths as service club leaders explained and pitched their clubs.

Plastic, foldable tables with sign-up sheets, large posters, and fliers lined the Quad during the student club service fair on September 12, 2023. After a morning with visits from local organizations and nonprofits during the Service Fair, student service clubs followed suit during lunch with over 15 stations ready to share their passion for a cause.

Whether it be fighting against gun violence or performing musical pieces for seniors across San Diego or packaging menstrual care packages to those in need, these student-run service clubs anticipate a great year of spreading compassion and kindness across San Diego and beyond and look forward to meeting new club members.

Summer Hu, Online Editor

Summer is a junior and the Online Editor for The Tower. Previously, she was a story, content, and copy editor. This is her third year on staff and she’s excited to bring new ideas and innovation to the publication. She also started and produces “The Tower’s Two-Knights Show,” the broadcast journalism branch of the publication. Besides journalism, her favorite classes are history and English, where she is free to “dream on” (to quote Aerosmith). When she’s not writing, she likes playing basketball and following the Golden State Warriors, is a die-hard fan of the One Piece anime, and enjoys scouting out new boba places. Her favorite articles often cover campus trends, profiles, and culture.
