Spirit Week Took Over Campus!

From cuddly companions to coordinated duos, students brought Spirit Week to life with fun and creativity before heading into Spring Break

Monday: Bring your own stuffed Animal

During Math Teacher Dr. Santiago Camacho’s office hours, Luming Wang (‘27) held onto her collection of stuffed animals — the seals — and her friends’, Livia Li’s (‘28) mushroom, and Michelle Y. Wang’s (‘27) cat squirrel with abs. Luming’s four baby seals came stuffed inside a gigantic seal. “The big seal is named Wardell, after Stephen Curry. And one of their kids is another NBA player, his name is Jason Tatum, but the Warriors beat them in the finals, so I am going to say this is their child,” explained Luming enthusiastically.

These two were hard to miss around campus! From left to right, Ciara Cunningham (‘31) and Iris Manter (‘31) dressed up as Thing 1 and Thing 2. The oversized costumes, previously worn by Ciara’s parents for a Halloween costume, were sitting in her closet, ready to be worn for Twin Tuesday!

During the fire evacuation, Isha Rendla (‘28) wore Jojo Perham’s (‘28) crown while sitting with Stella Morera (‘28). The crown appeared again when David Beamer (‘28) wore it for the Class of 2028 Instagram story, reminding people to “Dress to Impress.”

The night before the competition, team members Michael Sun (‘28), Claire Li (‘28), Adam Fang (‘27), Isabelle Qiao (‘29), and Tracie Liu (‘28) participated in a group plank. According to Isabelle, they had a pre-competition workout to “get buff to intimidate our opponents the next day.”

Chemistry Teacher Dr. Pamela Reynolds is an avid rock climber — one of the many passions she hopes to continue once she retires. Interim Department Chair and Science Teacher Ms. Kaitlin Ritsema explained that she’s lucky they both rock climb, so she “likes climbing with her outside of school.”

The day after graduation, Mrs. Crawford plans on moving to Washington, where she wants to spend quality time with her family and explore the outdoors. “My husband and I love to be outdoors and hike, and we hope to do lots of that soon — and Maisie comes with us,” Mrs. Crawford said. In the picture, Mrs. Crawford, her husband, and Maisie capture a captivating view of Yosemite National Park as they hiked through the beautiful landscape.

Kaitlyn is a sophomore and a new staff member of The Tower. Outside of Bishop’s, you can find her on a soccer field—whether she’s playing pickup games with college students and her brothers or training and competing with her club teammates. When she’s not chasing a ball, she’s probably in a music room, playing piano or singing—sometimes just for herself, and other times as part of the San Diego Children’s Chamber Choir. Kaitlyn looks forward to exploring different types of writing and bringing underrecorded stories to the Bishop’s community through her work for The Tower.

Bex is a freshman and is a first-year staff writer on The Tower. He entered Bishop’s in 6th grade and has loved every science class he has taken at Bishop’s. Bex’s second home is at Coast Volleyball Club, where he can be found nearly every day. Bex has played middle school volleyball all three years and is eager to play high school volleyball as the spring season approaches. On long breaks, Bex travels to Alaska, where he enjoys the company of his mom’s side of the family. He is excited to explore every aspect of journalism that the class offers and eager to see his final work published.

Stevie is a Senior and a second-year staff writer for The Tower. Stevie dabbles in all kinds of articles but finds student life to be the most fun. You can find Stevie on the golf course, in the kitchen baking cookies, reading Sally Rooney books, walking her dog Gino by the beach, or on the Hunte Field with a lacrosse stick. Stevie loves all the people she has met from interviewing people for articles, and is excited to meet even more!

Ivy is a sophomore and a Content Editor for The Tower. This is her second year on staff, where she enjoys writing punchy article openers when inspiration conveniently strikes at midnight and dreaming up oddly specific Top Tens for each issue. She’s also looking forward to putting on her editing hat this year. Outside of journalism, Ivy can usually be found on the tennis courts badly attempting drop shots, curled up with a good book, or indulging in her unhealthy nerd gummy clusters obsession. This year, she’s excited to continue exploring new story ideas and help The Tower bring more student voices to the page!

Melanie Yau, Editor-in-Chief
Melanie is a senior and Editor-in-Chief of The Tower. This is her fourth year on staff and third year as an editor, previously working as Online Editor and in graphics. She is excited to work with The Tower staff to uphold the publication’s mission of informing and deepening understanding of the Bishop’s community through community-focused reporting. In doing so, Melanie finds importance and value in meeting new students, faculty, and staff members and highlighting their contributions and perspectives. When she’s not writing, you can find Melanie in the dance studio as a member of PDG, eating cold pizza and taking post-round composure walks at Speech and Debate tournaments and MUN conferences, or enjoying boba in convoy with her friends and family.
