Dig Pink is a fundraiser that the Bishop’s Girl’s volleyball program hosts every year for breast cancer awareness. It involves a lot of pink and is hosted during October—breast cancer awareness month. This year, Dig Pink took place on October 22. The volleyball games were played against Maranatha High School, and Bishop’s reached victory for both JV and Varsity.

Maddie Yu (‘20) helped to organize and make the event possible. “I think Dig Pink is a really good way to raise awareness of breast cancer and to take the time to recognize those who have fought the tremendous battle of cancer,” she said. Team parents Mrs. Rochelle Bold, Mrs. Karen Mcfarlane, Mrs. Julie Yu, and Mrs. Jenn Beamer helped at the bake sale, which raised $446 for Susan G. Komen For the Cure Foundation. Sofia Roberts (‘22) helped to decorate the gym with pink accents.

The cause of Dig Pink is tremendously important, but so is the involvement of students in planning and organizing the event. As Maddie says, “Dig Pink is really important in teaching young athletes how to be involved and how to take initiative in giving back to the community.”
