On Thursday, October 30th, when students walked by the senior rec room during lunch, they saw blackened windows and heard screaming coming from inside. This was the Halloween haunted house, an annual tradition at Bishop’s, designed to get students excited about Halloween and give them an unforgettable experience.
The Senior Rec Room was transformed into a dark pathway that students could walk through during both Middle School and Upper School Lunches. Kindness Crew Leader Chloe Chereque (‘26) greeted students at the door. Although usually the haunted house is hosted by Peer Support, this year it was hosted by the Kindness Crew.
The Kindness Crew completely transformed the senior rec room. First, a team led by Event Team Member and Audio Visual Coordinator, David Gore, set up walls, which Kindness Crew members then draped with black tarps. Kindness Crew member Abigail Wiener (‘28) said that as they shook the walls, the path became narrower. The difficulty of the exit of the house intensified the exit. Although it was a short path, the many turns and dim lights made the journey more exciting.
Giles, in the wolf head, lurked by Kaitlyn Kuo (‘28) and Lily Qin (‘28) as they walked past. The entire walk-through took about a minute, but staying alert for the countless jump scares made it feel longer. Although he didn’t think it was too scary, Max London (‘28) said, “It gave me some pleasure.” Lulu Hsieh (‘29) said that “It was very scary,” and that she “can't wait to do that when [she's] a senior!”
After countless shrieks and fearful ducks, the Kindness Crew Haunted House surpassed all expectations. The transformation of the humble senior rec room into a spooky jungle where werewolves lurked and unsuspecting students cowered both dazzled and scared students. It was a true Halloween experience.
