The Bishop’s Girls’ Volleyball team put it all on the floor in the Eva May Fleet Athletic Center for the team’s senior night and final league game of the season. The team’s only seniors and co-captains Paige Meyers (‘26) and Rebecca “Becky” Liu (‘26) were recognized for all the hard work they’ve invested in the program throughout their years, that night, Friday October 24. Players on the court, parents, and students watching eagerly from the stands congregated to celebrate the match.
The team beat Pacific Ridge High School in three straight sets 3 – 0, winning 25 – 13, 25 – 16, 27 – 25. With that victory, the team was officially titled co-league champions and clinched the five seed going into San Diego open division California Interscholastic Federation, or CIFs.
“We came out pretty strong in the first set, but we lost some momentum as it went on,” Paige said. “We were maybe a little frazzled; it was an emotional night for a lot of people. Our focus might’ve been elsewhere, but we were able to stick together through the game.”
In the three set match, Paige, the team’s libero, led her team with 10 digs while Becky, a middle blocker, scored 3 points for her team at a very efficient rate. Becky noted, “Paige had an amazing night defensively,” and credited her with a large part of their victory.

Going into the match, the team’s mindset was clear. Becky said the team was trying to have “as much fun as we can for as long as we can. We want to bring the same energy and hype to every match that we’ve had all season.” Paige agreed, “It’s not about needing to beat a specific team, it’s more about enjoying our time together and extending [the season] as long as possible. The more we win, the more time we get together.”
Becky and Paige both stepped up into major leadership roles this season and had to decide how they wanted to lead. “The goal this year was to lead through positivity and by cheering for our teammates instead of being harsh or overly critical. We just wanted to be supportive and make everyone feel valued,” said Becky.
Paige explained, however, that the team faced some challenges this year. She said, “We’ve put a lot of expectations on ourselves because we know we have talented players. It’s been about trusting ourselves and being able to execute when it really counts.” With a few ups and downs, in the beginning of the season, the team came together and steadied as the season continued, in large part because of Paige and Becky’s critical roles on the team.
Avery Peckham (‘28), the team’s setter, a close teammate and friend of Becky’s for two years, said, “She is always composed on the court and helps calm the pressure of each game.” She added, “The best thing about Becky is her humor, she never fails to make everyone laugh.”
Nora Wiese (‘28), another player on the team, complimented how Paige “gives 100% and never fails to support everyone around her.” She continued, “Paige is one of the most reliable and supportive people in my life and she’s always there whenever I need to talk to someone.”
Looking forward, the team has hopefully many more CIF, and state games to be played. They lost a close match to higher seeding Coronado in 5 sets. Every game, the team is fighting for more time together, and more time with their seniors.
