Under twinkling blue lights and the steady strum of bass, Bishop’s students filled the downtown Julep Venue with laughter and dancing during this year’s Homecoming Dance on the night of September 27th. The annual event, themed “Starry Knights,” brought together high schoolers to celebrate after a festive week of school spirit. From elegant outfits to spontaneous dance circles, the evening captured the community and energy that define Bishop’s campus life.
Madison Gasaway (‘28) hosted a get-together at her house before homecoming. Lydia McDonald (‘28) said she was most excited about “getting ready with everyone at the house.” Sophia Cameron (‘28) said, although “jumping in a circle is kind of awkward,” her favorite moment of the night was “dancing with my friends.” From left to right are Madison Gasaway (‘28), Lydia McDonald (‘28), Kalina Parikh (‘28), Elke Inglish (‘28), Mina Ogden, Shreya Sabareesh, Rochelle Cheng ('28), Kaitlyn Kuo (‘28), Kainza Mungoma ('28), and Sophia Cameron (‘28).
From left to right, Caden Yang (‘28), Edward Baek (‘28), Andrew Chen (‘28), Sebastian Alvarez (‘28), and Evan Chang (‘28) hung out in the venue extension after a long night of dancing, taking a break from the high-energy dance floor. The space offered cornhole, snacks, and beverages, creating a more relaxed atmosphere for students to unwind and chat. Edward noted that, despite not being much of a “loud music person,” he still “really enjoyed hanging out” with his friends at hoco, especially in this space.
As the night drew on, students formed a dance circle, with laughter echoing through the venue and the DJ’s music pulsing in time with flashing lights. Cheers erupted as one group after another jumped in, moving to the beat and hyping each other up. Some showed off practiced choreography, while others just went for it, jumping on each other’s shoulders and falling. Students from all grades – like like Jose Leon (‘28) – ran into the center with friends showing off their dance moves to popular songs, like Dancing Queen.
Although the night came to an end and the decorations came down, this year’s Homecoming showcased what the event is really about – school spirit, friendship, and community. From the relaxed mood of the venue extension to the energy on the dance floor, it was a celebration of what makes our school feel like home.
