Associated Student Body (ASB) hosted its annual Spirit Week leading up to Bishop’s annual homecoming game, Bishbowl, and homecoming dance. This year, they were particularly creative with the themes, ranging from jersey day to a rom-com-themed day. Studentsexceeded the expectations and gave it their all each day. Here is just an overview of this year’s Spirit Week, considered the most exciting week of the year for many.
MONDAY: SPORTS FILM (WEAR YOUR FAVORITE JERSEY)
On Monday, Bishop’s students and faculty started the week off strong with Sports Film Day, for which they got to wear the jerseys of their favorite sports teams. Students showed up repping a wide variety of teams, from the Padres, our local baseball team, to the Kansas City Chiefs football team. In addition, there was an ASB-organized dodgeball game during upper school lunch. The juniors won, beating the freshmen in the first round, the seniors in the second round, and the teachers in the final round.
TUESDAY: TOON-TUESDAY (DRESS AS A CARTOON CHARACTER)
On Tuesday, the Bishop’s community experienced nostalgia at its finest, dressing up as different cartoon characters. From Care Bears to Alvin and the Chipmunks, students did not hold back from showing off their childhood favorites! Otter pops, a snack from the past, were also served at both lunches to top off the nostalgic day.
WEDNESDAY: WESTERN DAY (DRESS IN YOUR BEST WESTERN ATTIRE)
Whether it was because of Bishop’s large country music fan base or students’ random collection of cowboy hats, Western Day was a hit and had one of the highest levels of participation! Students showed up to campus decked out from head to toe in jeans, flannels, bandanas, boots, and, of course, cowboy hats! To put their lasso skills to the test, there was a grade-level vs. grade-level tug-a-war game during high school lunch. The juniors won first place, yet again.
THURSDAY: ROMCOM (WEAR PINK AND RED)
All dressed up in pink and red, students showed up to school looking like they came straight out of a rom-com movie! Our campus was transformed into a Valentine’s Day wonderland with hearts and tutus everywhere you looked. To make this day even sweeter, there were donuts of different flavors passed out in the morning and poster-making stations at lunch. The posters would be used to support students’ classes at Bish Bowl, the big homecoming game of the year.
FRIDAY- DAY 5: BISHBOWL/BLACK AND WHITE FILMS- BLACKOUT
To wrap up the spirited week, students wore black-out attire on Friday. The football players wore their black jerseys to prepare for the Bish Bowl football game. The rest of the student body was dressed in all-black outfits as well, getting ready to cheer on their team from the stands. After school, there were other sports games on campus, like the Girls Junior Varsity and Varsity Field Hockey games. There was also food and various activities, like face painting, organized on the quad for students and families to enjoy. In addition to all of this week’s festivities, the Bishop’s football team dominated against Francis Parker, winning 48-0.
