Mrs. Young

As some of you may have noticed, there’s a new face in the Student Center! Our Assistant Dean of Students, Mrs. Young, not only greets you with a bright smile when you’re running a bit late to class, she’s eager to help and get to know the students that make up the Bishops community.

Q: What made you decide to leave your previous position in the Del Mar Union School District and come to Bishops?

I was just ready for a change. I’d been [at the Del Mar Union School District] for ten years working with kindergarten through sixth grade students. I have two boys in high school and college and I thought it would be fun to work with that age group!

Q: How has your experience at Bishops been so far?

It’s been great! Everyone has been very welcoming so far and I got to work with Mrs. Kirchberg before she left. So, I shadowed her for a couple weeks, which is really nice because she knows everything! It was great to have that experience and that time with her so I could get a handle on the job. Every day is new and I’m learning a lot! It’s been a lot of fun!

Q: What’s been your favorite part of the Bishops community?

I like that every day is different — which I liked about my previous position as well. I like the busy day. I like the constant interruptions and I’m getting a lot of that [from] students, and parents. I just like the way the day flows. Never a dull moment!

Q: Have there been any challenges you’ve faced so far?

I wouldn’t say any challenges, just some things that have been a little unfamiliar. But I expected that and I take the time to familiarize myself and ask questions when I need to. I feel like I’m getting a good handle on everything.

Q: What are you most looking forward to about this school year?

I’m excited to see how the year goes. I’m interested in seeing the traditions everyone talks about, like Bishbowl and Spirit Week. The Blessing of the Animals sounds really cool! And I’m just excited to continue to see how everything is done here in the high school and middle school atmosphere.

Q: What do you like to do outside of work? Do you have any hobbies?

With having a high schooler, I go to a lot of their sporting events. My sons play football and baseball, and they’ve played together the past few years so I’ve been able to go to those. And I also go to a lot of Padres Games! We have season tickets so we’ve definitely gone to quite a few. And watching college football — my son goes to University of Utah — so we’ve been watching those games too! So, I like sports, I like to go to concerts, and I like to go on hikes with my dog and husband.

Q: Is there anything else you’d like the Bishops community to know about you?

Just that I’m really excited to be here and meet everyone!
