From Tampa, Florida, to Washington D.C., and finally, to San Diego, California, Communications and Marketing Manager Ms. Arielle Bader has traveled across the country to make it to The Bishop’s School. From her long term passion for photojournalism, to her fondness for fun stories like the Great Boat Challenge — and even her love for taking pictures of the sunset — Ms. Bader’s thoughtful eye for visuals  that tell a story will make her an amazing addition to the community.

Q: Where did you grow up, go to college, and live before San Diego?

I grew up in Tampa, Florida, so pretty cross-coast.  From there, I attended college in D. C. at the George Washington University, and I majored in photojournalism, where we were really taught to focus on our own style and develop that, and also got a lot of real world experience — like working on news stories.

Q: What do you like about photojournalism and why did you choose to study it?

It’s a really fun and important field…every day in the photojournalism world is different, whether you’re covering breaking news, meeting with someone for a portrait, or covering  a sports game — as well as finding features. I enjoy the  challenge of being at a new spot and trying to come up with something creative on a tight deadline.

Q: Have you always been into photography?

Definitely. Since I was a child [I was] making movies on iMovie and using photobooth. And then, through middle and high school [it was] getting involved with a yearbook and bringing my camera to places that I was involved in — like the pool, temple, around my neighborhood and concerts. And then in college, [it was] I was very involved with the student newspaper.

Q; What brought you to Bishop’s?

I was excited to find a role that was visual based and within a community where there would be a lot of activity going on every single day. It’s exciting that I  have the opportunity to be creative with the camera, all across campus. [With] the sixth grade boat [challenge] that happened last week, I was like ‘This would be a fun little recap video, something short and, upbeat.’ So, I got the GoPro working for that and joined in on the action in the pool.

Q: What are you most excited for here at Bishops?

Definitely to get into the routine and meet more students. Also…I want to attend more sports games and do coverage of that, some photos and videos and definitely posting them on social media for fun posts celebrating the athletes and their accomplishments.

Q: What do you like to do outside of Bishop’s?

I love going to photograph the sunset. I’m always not wanting to miss a good sunset. o, I always like checking the sky, looking at the clouds, and checking this website that kind of predicts [the sunset]. It’s nice to be here at Bishop’s because sunset is very close by on the coast. I also am getting more into reading, and I love going to concerts.
