Mr. Juan Vidal, a food enthusiast and California native, sits in Wheeler Bailey every day after school to help out his students. Though his desk is tucked away in the back corner of the building, he welcomes everyone with a smile. In his first year at Bishop’s, he is currently teaching Math 5 Core and Honors Statistics.
Q: Why did you choose to come to Bishops?
I’m originally from Bakersfield, California. I was in Chicago before here, and I just wanted to come back home and to be closer to family. I’m hoping to use those three and four day weekends to visit them more often. The weather is much better [in San Diego].
Q: What do you like to do outside of teaching?
I like to hang out with friends and try out food, eat at restaurants, and spend time together. I like eating. I had my students give me a list of restaurants on the first day — they all named a favorite restaurant for me, so I just tried Din Tai Fung. I like that one. I also tried the Taco Stand. It’s okay. Someone told me that it’s not worth it if the line’s long. But if it’s not then go for it. So. I like both of them so far.
Q: What are you most looking forward to or hoping to achieve this year at Bishop’s?
I’m hoping to get to know people, get to know my students, and get to know the community better.
Q: Do you have a favorite thing about Bishop’s so far?
These wellbeing breaks. They’re definitely nice.
