After years of navigating the intricate circuits of electronics as an Electronics Engineer, Veronica Covarrubias made a bold pivot to the classroom. Her journey into education began at the French-American School in La Jolla, but this year, seeking a fresh start and a new community, Covarrubias found her way to Bishop’s, where her passion for teaching is now sparking new connections.
Q: How has Bishops been for you so far and what aspects of Bishops have made you feel the most welcome?
“My experience at Bishops has been great so far. I feel truly welcomed in this diverse, well-integrated community. It’s clear that people enjoy being here, and I’ve been highly impressed by the students’ enthusiasm and engagement in their learning.”
Q:What led you to coming to Bishops this year?
“I was looking for a school where I could feel I was part of and Bishops seems to be that kind of community”
Q: What made you want to switch from an electronics engineer to working in education as a Spanish teacher?
“I love Spanish because I am deeply passionate about fostering cultural awareness and global understanding, I feel like language allows me to do that… I think it’s a powerful tool for connecting with people from diverse backgrounds. Leaving engineering was not an easy choice, but I feel like I found another passion in teaching languages”
Q: Why is teaching other languages important to you?
“I enjoy teaching languages because it fosters connection and opens doors to diverse cultures and experiences. Through teaching Spanish, I aim to help students not only master the language but also gain a deeper understanding of the values, traditions, and perspectives of different countries.”
Q: What are you looking forward to in your future at Bishops?
“Getting to be a part of the community. Attending some of the events or volunteering at some of the activities and events that happen in the community, it would be a great way to get to know more people and experience the Bishop’s1 culture.”
Q: Anything else you would like to add?
“I want to reiterate that the Bishops community feels like a great place, it’s a great joy to see students engaged in learning and well integrated at school.
Each time I see students heading to class and building connections with their teachers and peers, it gives a sense of home. It’s a rewarding experience as a teacher to see students truly enjoy their learning environment.”
Mrs. Covarrubias is ready and excited to be a new member of this community! Welcome to Bishops!
